We currently have about 15″ to 18″ of snow on the ground in the mid Gunflint Trail area. As you get closer to Lake Superior to will find even greater amounts of snow. There is approximately 2ft+ in the Devil Track area and in the higher elevations along Lake Superior. The Cook County Snowmobile Club has just started grooming some of the trails for the first time this past week. I have also heard that the North Shore State Trail has also been groomed. There is some light snow predicted in the forecast over the weekend.
I was out on Hungry Jack today and checked the thickness of the ice we found 12″-14″ of good ice. I did run across a little bit of slush but overall ice conditions seem to be pretty good. We are getting ready to open up for the winter season the day after Christmas.
Have a safe and Happy Holiday Season!!!
