We currently have about 15" to 18" of snow on the ground in the mid Gunflint Trail area. As you get closer to Lake Superior to will find even greater amounts of snow. There is approximately 2ft+ in the Devil Track area and in the higher elevations along Lake Superior. The Cook County Snowmobile Club has just started grooming some of the trails for the first time this past week. I have also heard that the North Shore State Trail has also been groomed. This couple Sam Soule and Jean Culp long time guests of HJL had a great weekend of fishing here on Hungry Jack Lake. The walleyes they caught were 27" and a 28". The Smallmouth Bass was around 19". Spring & Fishing Opener at Hungry Jack Lodge
Spring is shaping up weather has been nice and we are looking forward to a good summer! We did see a few fish this past weekend with some walleyes on Hungry Jack Lake. One group caught some really nice Smallmouth Bass in the 18” category. Fishing on Leo Lake was also very successful this past weekend for Rainbow Trout. GUNFLINT TRAIL SNOW REPORT Well the snow is coming slowly. We have received about 3” of fresh snow over the weekend and it is still snowing lightly. We are still in need of more snow to get the snowmobile trails open but I guess some is better than none. The lakes however have a pretty good ice cover.We have close to 12” of ice on Hungry Jack Lake.
